Embark on a snowmobile expedition miles
from civilization. Travel across glaciers,
mountains and ice covered fjords - a
landscape of snow and ice; untouched and
indescribably beautiful.
Day 1: Your tour leader will greet
you at the airport upon arrival in
Longyearbyen. You will be transferred to the
Spitsbergen Hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 2: A briefing and orientation will
be provided at breakfast, and you will then
be taken to the tour production department
where all necessary clothes and equipment
will be allocated. Snowmobiles and
provisions have been organized. Prior to
departure, the tour leader will provide a
basic introduction to the driving technique,
and you will set out at moderate speed to
become accustomed to your snowmobile. Depart
from Longyearbyen towards the Russian
settlement Barentsburg. Lunch will be served
before continuing on to Vårsolbukta. Dinner
and overnight stay at the hotel in
Barentsburg.
Day 3: After breakfast you will drive
towards the glacier Fridtjovbreen and Van
Mijenfjorden. Lunch is served en route. This
afternoon you will arrive at the Spitsbergen
Expedition Lodge, your base for the next two
days. Dinner will be served at the Lodge
this evening.
Day 4: Following an early morning
breakfast, you will set out towards
Tempelfjordan, heading north. The final
route of the day is based upon weather and
ice conditions. Lunch is served en route.
Dinner is arranged at the Lodge in the
evening.
Day 5: Pending good weather, we will
head for the east coast today. This region
features the spectacular Hayes Glacier,
frozen in the ice covered sea. Return to
Longyearbyen in the afternoon or evening.
Check in and enjoy dinner at Spitsbergen
Hotel.
Day 6: Transfer to the airport for your
departing flight.
*This tour is moderately demanding and
requires an adventurous mind and good
physical health. The weather can change very
quickly, and at times the wind and the cold
can be quite severe. |
