Journey to the east coast of Spitsbergen
on this unique Dogsled Safari. The Polar
dogs have long traditions in the Arctic
regions; for decades, man and dogs have
experienced blizzards, pale blue moonlight,
winter landscapes and midnight sun together.
Until the mid 1960's this was the only means
of transport. Connect with nature and
redefine freedom and peace.
Day 1: Arrival in Longyearbyen.
Accommodation has been arranged at
Spitsbergen Guesthouse this evening.
Day 2: Transfer to the Husky camp for
preparations and a welcome briefing. The
adventure begins as you travel southeast
through the valleys of Bolterdalen and
Tverrdalen; your guide will then command his
lead dog into the wide valley of Reindalen.
Lunch is served enroute. Upon arrival at the
camp, you will assist with meal preparations
and set-up. Relax in your heated tent this
evening amid stories of life in the Arctic.
Day 3: Your safari continues
southwards, through Lundstrømdalen and
Kjellstrømdalen, to the bay Inglefieldbukta
on the east coast of Spitsbergen. Witness
the glaciers calving into the Arctic Ocean.
What a magnificent sight! The east coast is
the land of the Polar Bears, and the Huskies
will be on full alert for the "King of the
Arctic".
Day 4: Our Arctic adventure continues
north along the east coast. On sunny days,
there is an opportunity for visitors to see
ringed seals sunbathing on the sea ice. If
weather conditions permit, you may even see
Polar Bears walking on the pack ice. Tonight
we will raise our camp in the Agardh valley.
Days 5-6: Over the next two days, your
Husky teams will bring you through two
glacier massifs. The mountains rise 1000
meters above sea level, and the mountain
passes crossed reach the height of 700
meters. Snow conditions permitting, you will
return to the Husky Camp late Friday
afternoon. Following dinner, you will
transfer to your accommodation at
Spitsbergen Guesthouse. Please note that due
to changes in weather conditions, arrival
time at the camp may be on Saturday.
Day 7: Today is free to explore
Longyearbyen at your leisure. A visit to the
Svalbard Museum and Galleri Svalbard is
recommended. Lunch at Spitsbergen Guesthouse
has been arranged, and a farewell dinner
will be held this evening.
Day 8: Transfer to the airport for your
departing flight.
*We recommend that participants are in
good physical condition to join this tour.
You will be asked to assist with camp setup,
feeding the dogs, and preparations for the
trip. It is not necessary that you have
experience in dog sledding. |
